Greetings

Greetings:

(Published for Yaakov Kohen while he is having trouble with WordPress)

In case you're wondering about the name of Pinchus, look up Numbers 25. Actually, to understand the name you really should read the whole chapter - for most of you this means about 5 minutes rather then reading it on the web page. Phineahas was zealous for G-d and would not tolerate (OK, he was intolerant) those those who mocked G-d.

The funny part about this is that G-d commended Phinehas for his radical actions and Phinehas (and his descendants) are beloved of G-d for the actions of one man. But it was for his actions that today would be considered intolerant. As a matter of fact, he would be put in jail. Again, one more time, it was his actions and love of G-d, not his speeches and politics of "go along to get along" that made him so beloved of G-d.

No matter... This blog will be spent teaching and learning and, more than likely, stirring up controversy. Thanks to Yaakov of Sweetwater, Texas, for carrying the torch for so long. With his permission, I'll probably re-publish some of his blogs over here. Yaakov Kohen is getting on up in years and would rather spend the rest of his life rounding up strays, reading the Holy Books of G-d, and prayer; not arguing with today's liberal crowd. Not a bad way to wind up your days. Maybe I can do the same in about 10 or 20 years.
